25 Days 'til Christmas!!

Hey Everyone!!!
Today is the day!!!
My 25 days of Christmas project starts and I am so excited about all the craft ideas and recipes I have to share with you! Hoping all goes well, I will have a post for every day until Christmas day...I do have finals coming up so I'll cross my fingers. haha Today I am starting with christmas decorations of course! Thought I'd share how I decorate my apartment. I'll follow up later with some pictures from my parents house! My mom always does a beautiful job! Enjoy!

By weaving a 50 count light strand into the decor above the cabinets it lit up the kitchen really well.
We are so excited and slowly our present pile is building up under the tree...just need to add some bows! We'll see if Jackson can make it until christmas before digging into these. He LOVES to chew presents lol

Walmart has a ton of great ornaments especially if you are starting your own tree like I was this time last year. For a small price you can build up your ornament collection in no time. It's also a good idea to hit up Hobby Lobby when they have sales on Christmas decor and ornaments which has been every week this month.

We used a set of 2 pre-lit garland from Walmart ($12)for the entertainment center. We doubled up the two strands of garland into one and wove the garland in and out of the tv, speakers and whatever else. The lights on the garland do not distract your tv viewing experience AS LONG AS the lights are not blinking.

This is Jackson's favorite spot...even in 20-30 degree temperatures that we have been having lately at night. We used 10 inch zip ties to tie the icicles to the balcony.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!
I hope everyone is having a wonderful time with family and loved ones! We just made it back in town from our trip visiting family and we had a wonderful time! My mom and I started cooking Dressing on Tuesday night, we started the Giblet Gravy and the Bing Cherry Salad yesterday and then everything else was underway at 6:30 this morning....wheww it was an early morning cooking and boy am I tired!!! Everything we make at Thanksgiving is VERY southern. We don't make stuffing, we make traditional dressing and we've made the same Thanksgiving recipes for generations! Lunch was wonderful and I took pictures to share! Check them out below and if you see anything you like BE SURE TO COMMENT and I'll get you the recipe!  I am so thankful for my family, my friends, the people that make my life so wonderful and the opportunities I have been given. I am a truly blessed woman!!! Tomorrow the fun continues...like I said I've never been a brave Black Friday shopper but we traditionally decorate the house on that day. Tomorrow Mom and I will decorate the tree, the mantles and everything in between while listening to National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation....for the THOUSANDTH time. Lol. Dad will be outside with the puppies, decorating the house. Tomorrow is also the ARKANSAS vs LSU game! I am sooooo excited!! #3 Arkansas vs #1 LSU after a wonderful surprise last week...the top three BCS College Football rankings went to the SEC, more specifically, the SEC WEST! #1 LSU, #2 Alabama and #3 Arkansas...so awesome to represent the great talent we have in southern college football! Tomorrow's game determines everything, if LSU wins, they take the top spot and battle Alabama for the BCS championship BUT if Arkansas wins, all three teams will be in a score record tie (11-1). Someone will be out of the BCS championship...so I guess we'll see tomorrow! You will definitely hear about it from me if we win! WOOOO PIG SOOIE!! RAZORBACKS!
haha Thanks for reading guys! Check out my pics and enjoy the rest of your break!

My dad decided shaking the tree was better than trying to reach the limbs.

We picked a TON of pecans...and that's just what was left on the tree.

November 15, 2011!!

Hello Everyone!! Today is my birthday! I turned 22 today and it was pretty uneventful... I had a test this morning and I went to the DMV to renew my license HAHA!! But I did get some goodies from my favorite bakery Rick's and my license picture turned out pretty well so I might actually show it off LOL! My cake this year was a little one, which I prefer since I'm not having an annual princess party like usual (not really haha). I still had 22 candles on it and they all became one huge flame almost catching my cake on fire!! But it was super yummy and I even got some of my favorite tye-dye cookies! Besides that...today has been a pretty tame Tuesday considering it's my birthday. In the words of my Momma... "It sucks to be a grown-up" Hahaha But next week I look forward to a short school week as Wednesday starts Thanksgiving Break! We get to pig out on yummy food and Black Friday we will be _____. Can you guess?!?! No, we don't shop on Black Friday! We DECORATE! Oh my goodness, I'm so excited! I have my parents house and my apartment to decorate so it's pretty epic! Not to mention, I already have wrapped presents on the floor of my living room so it's probably a good idea that I put up a tree. Well that's what I have for today! I'm sharing a picture of my Rick's Bakery cake from last year...when I had a party lol. It's a Vera Bradley cake, which is appropriate for a VB lover like me! I hope everyone has a wonderful rest of the week if I don't post by then! Enjoy!

Mean Ole Momma!

Hey Everyone! I hope you all have had a wonderful Wednesday thus far! It's been cold here today which means UGG weather and I love it. I hope it continues!!
Just wanted to share a lesson learned today... I was trimming Jackson's nails because I noticed that he was chewing on his paw like he was cleaning it. So I thought, maybe his nails are getting too long and they're bugging him! I took him out on the porch to clip them and I'm always careful but today I cut the quick! WORST FEELING IN THE WORLD! He didn't cry or whine at all so it must have just been the tip but it bled horribly! I didn't have a styptic pencil so I used cornstarch! There's my tip of the day! Cornstarch...it works wonders to stop the bleeding. I just put a little pile on the counter and put his paw in it. Plus, the styptic pencil burns even more and not many people keep them in their cabinet. Thank goodness he didn't whine otherwise I probably wouldn't have been able to find the cornstarch from crying so much! Well I hope that helps in case you run into the same problem! Enjoy!

Rainy Days!

Tornadoes, Earthquakes and Floods, OH MY!!! Haha Hey Bloggers! In case you couldn't tell it's been quite eventful here in the south recently, weather wise that is. We have had two minor earthquakes from both the Oklahoma and mid-Arkansas region, both yesterday and Saturday. I guess that is to be expected when you live on the largest fault in the United States!! Then, the rain came! It has stormed tremendously the past two days...enough to flood Fayetteville and we're on a hill. I'm not sure how that works...and then tornado warnings! We're a mess down here, I know! :D But nevertheless I thought I would take advantage of this soggy day by sharing a Cheddar Broccoli Soup recipe! It is perfect for rainy, cold days or even if you are feeling under the weather. I found this recipe at Mel's Kitchen Cafe and it was a hit the first time I tried it! I will definitely be doubling the recipe next time and storing some in the freezer!

Cheddar Broccoli Soup
Ingredients:
1 3/4 cups chicken broth (about 3/4's of a 14.75 oz can)
1 small onion, diced
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup (4 tablespoons) butter
1/2 teaspoon pepper
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups milk
1 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese, preferably sharp or extra sharp
1/2 cup shredded swiss cheese
2 1/2 to 3 cups chopped, lightly steamed or blanched broccoli

Directions:
Simmer chicken broth and chopped onion for 15-20 minutes in a covered small saucepan, until onions are soft. Heat milk in microwave for 1-2 minutes. In a separate medium-sized stockpot, melt butter then add flour, salt and pepper. Cook together, stirring constantly, for 2 minutes, then whisk in warmed milk. Stir and heat together on medium heat until soup starts to thicken, about 5-8 minutes. Add warmed chicken broth with onions and continue to stir until well blended. Add cheeses and stir until completely melted. (If the soup is too thick at this point I suggest adding the remaining can of chicken broth as needed.) Stir in steamed broccoli. Add more salt and pepper to taste, if needed. Serve immediately in bowls or bread bowls. That's it! I'm definitely making this again very soon! My dad loved it! Enjoy!
